Code found within the recently released iOS 4.3 suggest that the next generation iPhone will have the same dual core A5 processor as the iPad 2. 4.3 references a device with the model number “N94AP”, which is rumored to be the iPhone 5. The kernel for N94AP contains the model number “S5L8940?, which is same model number as the iPad 2's A5 processor. It’s not definitive proof, but it is very compelling.
The iPhone 5 *might* get the A5? No, it will get the A5.@EmilyCaffrey it does. its kernel is even in the iPad 2 4.3 firmwares (Apple’s build system accidently left it in since they all have A5).
Other than battery life, there is little reason for Apple to not upgrade, and if they want the iPhone 5 to stay competitive against its Android rivals (which are rapidly gaining marketshare), Apple needs to cram in all the features that will fit.
